About Catherine

Spars:

  • All spars are in very good structural and cosmetic condition. The original mast and boom have been replaced. The replacements are hollow, and were manufactured by Nobel masts.
  • There is an additional Lewmar winch and two high load bearing Spinlock rope clutches mounted on the fore side of the mast at tabernacle height for the foresail halyards. These eliminate halyard chafe on the gaff jaws and greatly facilitate the adjustment of the jib and staysail halyards.
  • The boom is supported by a fixed boom gallows in bronze and teak
  • Gaff jaws have been re-leathered in 2019
  • The Wykeham Martin furling gear on the jib was replaced with a new one in 2020.

Centreboard:

  • The centreboard has been removed, shot blasted and professionally epoxied in mid-2021.
  • The slot was epoxied and the pivot bolt, which was checked at the same time and found to be in good condition, this was greased and replaced.
  • The hoisting mechanism will be checked during the refit.

Engine:

  • Catherine is fitted with a Yanmar 3YM20 (with calorifier) which was installed in 2016 and commissioned in 2017. Her engine has been recently serviced.
  • The gearbox and stern gear (with a 2017 Featherstream 3 bladed feathering prop and rope cutter) have already been serviced this winter and the batteries (2 service and an independent start battery) are currently ashore for periodic charging.
  • Anodes (hull, skeg and prop) are being checked and will be changed as necessary in the 2022-23 winter service.
  • The stern gland is of the rubber collar type with a grease reservoir and water feed for lubrication and has been greased.
  • Seacocks have all been checked
